The Michelin Guide Hotel Selection introduces over 5,000 excellent hotels in over 120 countries around the world, and is rated based on the accommodation experiences of the Michelin Guide's anonymous selection team. In the Michelin Guide Hotel Selection, which covers all of Japan, 243 hotels and inns were selected as unique and attractive accommodations.
"Selected" is a category below the starred Michelin Key, and is for accommodations that Michelin recognizes as being of high quality. In this Japanese edition, a total of 108 Michelin Key and 135 Selected accommodations are listed, for a total of 243 establishments.

The evaluation criteria are as follows:
1. The hotel itself is a destination, offering experiences unique to the area
2. Amazing architecture and interior design
3. Quality of service, comfort and good maintenance
4. The experience is worth the price
5. It has a unique character that reflects the personality and unique features of the facility.

REF Kumamoto by VESSEL HOTELS is located approximately 10 minutes by car from Kumamoto Station and 1 minute on foot from Karashimacho Station on the Kumamoto City Tram, making it extremely convenient for sightseeing and business. Based on the concept of the Land of Fire and the Land of Water, we have created a fire and water corner, offering a variety of menu items for guests to try on the spot, including a hamburger made with Kumamoto Prefecture Akagyu beef, where you can choose your favorite toppings, and dried fish from Amakusa, served on a charcoal grill. We also offer a wide variety of breakfast dishes, allowing you to savor the flavors of Kumamoto, such as dumpling soup and tai pian. The dishes and trays are crafted from materials reminiscent of Kumamoto, such as bamboo, rush grass, and washi paper, creating a truly Kumamoto-esque atmosphere throughout the space. Breakfast is available from 6:00 AM, making it convenient for guests with early morning departures for work or sightseeing. We also accept walk-in guests, so you can enjoy breakfast even if you are not staying overnight.
